Quiet Days of Reflection
Quiet Days are held on one Monday a month from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The day opens with prayer. The morning session is followed by an hour and a half reflection time. Reflection time is a private, silent time for prayer, journaling, reflecting, or reading. Feel welcome to use our chapel, sitting rooms, library, or explore our beautiful grounds overlooking Lake Gilbraith, visit the Stations of the Cross, walk the indoor or outdoor labyrinths, or enjoy peaceful quiet in our Prayer Garden. Morning reflection time is followed by the noon main meal. The afternoon session includes sharing and closing prayer.
Participants are welcome to continue in personal reflection until 5:00 p.m.

A Touch of Healing Day

An invitation to a quiet day of healing through different modalities: prayer, music, relaxation techniques, Tai Chi Chih, and healing touch. The presenters will share a brief introduction about energy work, the healing touch of Jesus, and what one may expect when experiencing various forms of healing therapies in the Christian tradition.

What Does God’s Presence Within Us Mean?

In the Gospel of St. John, and in various other Scripture references, we are reminded that God comes to us and makes His dwelling within us. What does this presence mean for our spiritual lives? We will listen and seek the ways this divine presence is revealed to us in the ordinary events of our daily lives.
Facilitator: Dorothy Weber, Ph.D is a former teacher, nurse, and chaplainery student. She has facilitated retreats and days of recollection for a variety of groups. Dorothy assists in providing spiritual care to the elderly in the Catherine Kasper Life Center.

Make our Hearts Like unto Thine

We will explore the history of the Sacred Heart, consider Jesus’ love and mercy, and then ask our Lord to continue working in our lives. May Jesus mold and fashion our own hearts according to His own designs so that we may truly share Him with all the world!

Writing Ways: Exploring Writing as a Threshold to Spirit

Participants will explore personal writing as a means of connection with Spirit. We will use experiences of remembering, guided meditations, story-telling, poetry, and music to prompt and complement written explorations.
Facilitator: Sr. Judith Diltz, PHJC is a writer and a college writing instructor. She promises to leave her red pen at home and to serve as a guide so that all might find writing a threshold into the richness of their own spirit!

Spiritual Listening

Living full and busy lives can sometimes distract us from attending to our own spiritual journey. Spiritual listening calls us
to pay attention to the events in our lives so that we can hear the gentle whispers of the Holy Spirit. The day will focus on being attentive to what is happening in our life and hearing God’s voice within.
Facilitator: Sr. Shirley Bell, PHJC has a master’s degree in pastoral studies from Loyola University. She has been director of formation for the PHJC’s and for an inter-community formation program for several years. She is currently the administrator of the Maria Center at the PHJC Ministry Center.

Longing to "Come Home"

Prayer forms and reflection on our lives will be presented, with special emphasis on Sleeping with Bread, a form of prayerful reflection. We will also take time to consider the longing in ourselves to “come home.”
Facilitator: Chaplain Carolyn Strzyzykowski has been a board certified Chaplain since 1990, and is currently Chaplain for the Catherine Kasper Life Center. She enjoys her grandchildren, camping, reading, pontoon boating, and silence.

Personal & Communal Thanksgiving Through Psalms

The Psalms are beautiful expressions of praise and thanksgiving, lament and petition. Though most psalms have all four elements present, we will concentrate on personal and communal thanks to God for all blessings received, especially those of which we are not yet aware.
Facilitator: Fr. Michael Winkowski, C.P.P.S. is a recently retired Missionary of the Precious Blood. He was ordained in 1970 and served in parishes and schools in Detroit, Whiting, South Bend, and Walkerton. He continues parish assistance in the Gary Diocese.

Advent: Hope-filled Yearnings

Elderhostel Programs
Three times a year Elderhostelers come to the Lindenwood Retreat and Conference Center for week-long learning experiences. An Elderhosteler is a person with 55 or more years of life experience who knows that learning is a lifelong pursuit that opens minds and enriches lives. They yearn for new ideas, challenges, and experiences. They come from every walk of life to learn together.
The Elderhostel program was founded in 1974. In the summer of 1975, 220 participants enjoyed the first Elderhostel experience. Today, Elderhostel is the world’s largest provider of lifelong learning programs for adults. Each year, approximately 170,000 people participate in Elderhostel’s nearly 8,000 programs throughout the United States and Canada and in more than 90 countries around the world.

1. Brain Aerobics - Dendrites are the "branches" in our brains that help us link and retrieve information. We make them grow by doing or learning new and different things by using our mind logically, imaginatively, and thoughtfully. Expanding ourselves not only helps our brains, it also contributes to our overall well-being and attitude toward life. Led by Joni Gatz-Bauman from Chicago, Illinois.
2. Life as Movement - What activities can reduce your risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, arthritis, depression, and Alzheimers? What are the benefits of daily activity? How can movement be medicine to make your life complete? We will explore how fitness can be a healing process. Led by Mary Holm and staff from the Fitness Forum in Plymouth, Indiana.
3. Acupressure -Acupressure is an ancient healing art using the fingers to press key points on the surface of the skin to stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. This process aids in healing. Acupressure includes relieving pain, balancing the body, and maintaining good health. Join us in learning about and practicing this ancient healing art.

A Brush with God: Icon Painting Retreat

For artists and non-artists alike, this retreat covers completing an icon from start to finish with step-by-step instructions. This involves the drawing of the icon and painting the finished product, a very moving and spiritual experience. This year’s painting will be the icon of Saint Francis. Francis is widely revered as the patron saint of animals, but he was much more than that. Francis reminded the world that love is our real treasure. Come, join us.
Facilitator: Peter Pearson of New Hope, PA, has been a student of iconography for many years and has studied under well-known iconographers.

Spiritual Formation Program: Seeds of the Spirit
One Saturday a Month, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
Seeds of the Spirit is Lindenwood's two-year Spiritual Formation Program. The Lindenwood Spiritual Formation Program is Christ-centered, holistic, experiential, and lifelong. It is for transformation, not just information. It is an introductory course on the rich heritage of Christian spirituality designed for searchers and seekers. You will be provided tools for the work of the Spirit and a map for the journey into your own soul. We will meet monthly September through May for two years. Each gathering will include instruction, discussion, and experiences. "Seed groups" will be formed to nurture and support one another. This program is designed for those on a spiritual growth path who wish to deepen their experience, and for those who have little or no background in Christian spirituality and desire to learn more and to personally experience this rich heritage.
A "Leadership Team," comprised of area religious, clergy, and laity, will attend, supervise, and participate in all of the sessions. Continuing Education Units are available from Ancilla College.

Facilitator: Sr. Janet Born, OSF , has a Masters in Religious Studies, has been a teacher, Pastoral Minister, DRE, and a Pastoral Associate. She was trained in Spiritual Direction at Milford Spiritual Center and has been involved in adult spiritual development for over twenty years. She is presently the Director of Oldenburg Franciscan Center in Indiana.
Rev. Dennis Wenzel is pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church,
Donaldson, Indiana. He is a trained spiritual director under the
Ignatian spiritual discipline and writes a weekly devotional column.
