Theology of the Body

October 16, 2010 (Saturday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm)
“Theology of the Body” might sound like a contradiction at first, but over the course of five years, Pope John Paul II revealed to the whole world a truth that God had been trying to teach us from the beginning: our bodies speak a language, and that language is the language of love. In our Quiet Day of Reflection, we will gather together with our Blessed Mother to ponder these truths that are written upon our hearts. We will look at where we’ve been, where we are, and most importantly, where we are destined to be. With the Blessed Virgin Mary herself as a guide, we will come to meet the Lord face-to-face. And when we do, we’ll discover that He’s always been closer to us than we are to ourselves.
Facilitator: Fr. Bob Lengerich comes to us from Granger, Indiana, where he currently serves as Associate Pastor at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Fr. Bob entered the seminary right out of high school, studying philosophy and classical languages at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton, MA, and theology and biblical studies at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH. Throughout his life, Fr. Bob has enjoyed an especially close relationship with our Blessed Mother.
Fee: $27 and includes the main noon meal. It is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Registration Information: Registration Form or call 574-935-1780.

Spirituality of Gratitude

November 13, 2010 (Saturday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm)
We live in a consumer culture that tells us that we are what we have or what we consume. This can lead us to unconsciously believe that we are what we have. This attitude can lead us to a forgetfulness of our giftedness. Today we will remember the sacredness of our lives. At our core, we are gifted and we are gifts. Out of this realization arises a sense of gratitude. We are called to be grateful. Meister Eckhart once said, “If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, ‘thank you,’ that would suffice. Through reflection on Holy Scripture, quiet prayer, and sharing of our personal stories, we will seek to understand the role of gratitude in our spiritual lives.
Facilitator: Dorothy Weber, PhD has a graduate degree in philosophy, is a former teacher, nurse, and chaplain. She is presently engaged in a two year course on Spiritual Companioning. This allows her to pursue her interests in spirituality and theology. She has facilitated retreats and is presently a volunteer member of the chaplaincy team at the Catherine Kasper Nursing Home.
Fee: $27 and includes the main noon meal. It is non-refundable and non-transferable.
Registration Information: Registration Form or call 574-935-1780.

Christmas and the Incarnation

December 13, 2010 (Monday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm)
The incarnation of God in the person of Christ is one of the cornerstones of the Christian faith. The Incarnation was God’s first thought for creation, not an after-thought, an event to make up for original sin. Jesus’ life was the fulfillment of God’s longing to be one with us. During our day together, we shall reflect on various church teachings about the incarnation using sources from the writer of the Gospel oust. John to the 20th century theologian Karl Rahner.
Facilitator: Sr. Cathy Schwemer is a member of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ and currently serves as the Executive Director of the North American Conference of Associates and Religious. Sr. Cathy has a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Theology from Washington Theological Union and has presented at various workshops and conferences across the United States.
Fee: $27 (day includes noon main meal).
Registration Information: Registration Form or call 574-935-1780.

Lindenwood Special Programs

Dream Group

September 1, 2010 - May 4, 2011 (First Wednesday of every month, 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm)
Life constantly strives to bring about unique and new forms. In the heart of the unconscious lies the deep instinct to bring about a unique, whole personality in each of us. Carl Jung called this the urge to individuation. Contemporary Christians recognize this movement as the Holy Spirit within, guiding us each to wholeness. Dreams are an important and reliable way to be in touch with the unconscious and the invitations of God in our life.
Dream work is a process of attention to a dream. The trouble with dreams is that the truths they offer come to us in symbolic language. Dreams need to be tended and worked with until they reveal their meaning.
The Lindenwood dream group will give participants a way of doing dream work in community, with two people each session presenting a dream for the group to work with. The person who presents benefits from the group’s questions and reflections about the dream. Other participants are enriched by hearing and working with dreams other than their own. Everyone in the group learns about dream work by doing it together.
Regular and consistent participation in the group is important for the integrity of the group and for building the trust required for shared dream work.
Facilitator: Sister Joyce Diltz, PHJC director of Bethany Retreat House, has been working with dreams for 30+ years, both in her own life journey and in the ministry of spiritual direction and retreats. She has studied dream work with Fred Maples, Jeremy Taylor, Dean Franz, and Patricia Brockman and is a graduate of the Haden Institute Dream Leader Training Program.
Fee: $20 per person, per session, (total registration fee of $180; 1/2 due at time of registration, 1/2 due January 2011.)
Registration Information: Registration Form or call 574-935-1780.

The final raku firing produces unusual metal flashing in the glazes along with crackle effects.
Results are difficult to predict or duplicate. These creations will be one of a kind decorative pieces and should not be utilized for food.
