Our day will be an intro to John of the Cross whose writings offer great promise. The morning focus will be John’s amorous poem, The Spiritual Canticle, where his experiences are known to us. The afternoon will offer glimpses into the poem’s later stanzas where the Beloved/God emerges.
Facilitator: LeFoy Friesen, PhD , recently retired, continues to integrate the vocational strands of his life: peace/justice worker, theological ethics professor, innkeeper, spiritual trekker. A Secular member of the Discalced Carmelites (OCDS) since 1994, he is interested in John of the Cross primarily as spiritual guide.

Seasons of Fruitfulness

When autumn arrives, we look forward to an abundant harvest of fruit. In the same way, we anticipate the rich gifts of maturity as we grow older. On this day, we will examine both the gifts and challenges of spirituality at midlife and beyond. In group sessions and in solitude, we will explore sustainable rhythms for ongoing fruitfulness.
Facilitator: Marlene Kropf is Associate Professor of Spiritual Formation and Worship at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Elkhart, Indiana. She also serves as Denominational Minister of Worship for Mennonite Church USA. She is a frequent retreat and workshop leader, a writer, and leader of Celtic pilgrimages.

Alive in Christ

November 16, 2009 (Monday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm)
St. Paul writes, "I have been crucified to the world. It is now no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me." After observing the Jubilee Year of this great Evangelist, we continue to follow in the footsteps of St. Paul, walking together along a path that leads us from death into new and abundant life. In our morning session we’ll look at the problem of suffering through the eyes of St. Paul. In our afternoon time, we’ll explore how the death of our false selves can free us to live even now in the peace of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Facilitator: Fr. Bob Lengerich is from St. Pius X Catholic Church in Granger, Indiana where he has served since October, 2007.
Fee: $25 (includes noon main meal)
Registration Information: Registration Form or call 574-935-1780.

Advent: A Time of Longing

December 14, 2009 (Monday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm)
Advent invites us to get in touch with the deepest yearnings of our hearts that have been planted by God. It is a time of waiting in hope for the fulfillment of the Reign of God to flower and continue towards its fullness. For what am I living now? For what do I long? Do I see Advent as a time to keep vigil as we await the Second Coming of Jesus Christ? How does that call me to live today? Perhaps we can go deeply into our hearts to discover how we can build God’s Reign together, for Jesus tells us in the Gospels that the Kingdom of God is among us. Do we live as if it is true?
Facilitator: Jay Freel Landry is currently a Pastoral Associate at Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend where he directs adult faith formation, retreats, initiation, financial and seasonal outreach, and justice ministries. He has been in parish and retreat ministry for 12 years. He has his Masters of Divinity from the University of Notre Dame.

The Gospel of Paul

July 12 - 17, 2009 (Sunday, 5:00 pm - Friday, 1:00 pm)
Being the year of Saint Paul the Apostle, it is fitting that we focus on his letters to understand the Good News that he preached. Paul’s writings predate any of our written Gospels. He is the first to speak about preaching the “gospel.” Paul does not think of the gospel as a story of the events in Jesus’ life, nor even as a set of beliefs about Jesus. Rather, the gospel is the “good news” that anyone who believes in Jesus is already saved. The gospel is the proclamation of faith in God’s forgiveness or the realization in human life of the “good news” that Jesus Christ has come to bring salvation to all people. Paul encouraged his communities to read and reflect on his instructions when they gathered for the liturgy. In his letters, Paul teaches, exhorts, encourages, and corrects. From Paul’s writings we can get a picture of how the early church operated, how it worshipped and governed itself, and how it grew. During the retreat we will take a close look at some of the key insights that Paul has into Jesus and have the opportunity to appreciate the great depths of his spirituality and commitment to Jesus and his Church.
Facilitator: Michael Fonseca holds degrees in Counseling Psychology, Theology, English Literature, and Philosophy. He has been a teacher at the high school and college levels as well as former coordinator for spiritual formation at Saint Luke Institute in Silver Springs, Maryland. Michael is currently Director of Spiritual Formation and Facilitator for Deaconate Formation Programs in Dioceses of Grand Rapids and Gaylord, Michigan as well as Victoria, Texas. For over 20 years, Michael has had a spiritual direction practice and conducted many retreats for parishes, religious communities, and diocesan clergy. He has also written Living in God’s Embrace and Loving in the Master’s Footsteps.

Liturgy and Mass Leader: Fr. John Scott was ordained in 1969. He has served six parishes and for the past 10 years has served St. Thomas Aquinas in Knox, Indiana. Prior to serving St. Thomas, Fr. Scott was involved in Prison Ministry for 12 1/2 years. He has been a personal friend of Michael Fonseca’s for most of his life.

Healing Past Life Trauma

October 3 - 4, 2009 (Saturday and Sunday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm)
Sometimes the root cause of an emotional problem or a relationship difficulty lies in unresolved trauma from a past life. Quantum Physics has made us aware that sequential ordering of time is an illusion, and all time is really how—so a person’s past lives are all really happening simultaneously. Healing an issue from a past life frees the client to move forward in this life, unencumbered by the chains of that problem. This workshop teaches a “Soul Detective” protocol to clear past life trauma using muscle testing to access information and tools from Energy Psychology to rapidly clear the trauma, retrieving the lost soul energy.

Who should come? Both professional healers and also lay people interested in learning self-help techniques and having a personal experience of healing their own past life trauma.
Facilitator: Barbara Stone is a workshop presenter, bilingual psychotherapist, Professor at Energy Medicine University, and an Adjunct Professor at Hocking College. Her newest book, Invisible Roots: How Healing Past Life Trauma Can Liberate Your Present (2008, Energy Psychlogy Press), won the Book News USA award for the best book of 2008 in the category of Health: General. Also a musician, potter, gardener, and grandmother, she holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute.
Fee: $245 or $220 if tuition is received in full by September 4 (overnight lodging and additional meals is extra)
Registration Information: Registration Form or call 574-935-1780.

Grief Support for Adults Retreat

October 16 - 18, 2009 (Friday, 6:00 pm - Saturday, 3:00 pm)

This program is designed for anyone who is dealing with life’s challenges following the death of a loved one. Through facilitated group sharing and time for individual reflection, the retreat will provide a supportive environment to grieve and the tools to once again achieve balance in one’s life. Participants should be at least six months into their grief.
Facilitator: Donna Sikorski is a bereavement counselor and support group facilitator for the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care. She has 10 years of experience in the field of death, dying, and bereavement.
Fee: $85 for single occupancy; $70 double occupancy (per person). Includes overnight accommodations, Saturday breakfast and noon main meal.
